Tips

Still working on this, I’ll add more as they come to me.

These tips are mostly for me, so I can read them every now and then to remind myself. But I hope they help.

Read the book Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin. The book is “a no-nonsense, tough-love guide for savvy girls who want to stop eating crap and start looking fabulous”. It is NOT for everyone. It’s blunt. Almost harsh. But I needed that. I needed to be told what is in the foods I was eating and I needed someone to slap me in the face with it. The book wants you to be vegan (for dietary reasons mostly). I definitely do not think you have to do so to lose weight. But for me it makes sense, it makes it easy, and I really enjoyed it. If you’re interested check out the book. You can get it on Amazon for like a dollar plus shipping.

Don’t weigh yourself every day. It will drive you crazy, and it’s more fun if you set one or two days of the week to be “weigh in” it gives you something to work towards.

Drink water water water! Get yourself one of those water bottles with the ounces marked on the side and take it with you everywhere. Drink 8 cups (64 oz) a day! DONT drink calories. It just doesnt make sense. Tea and coffee are good also and are nice to change it up, but WATER WATER WATER. You body needs it to work efficiently. It will help your metabolism, and make you feel less hungry when you eat.

Keep a food diary. Most smart phones have apps to keep track of your calories. I use myfitnesspal and it’s wonderful. I can enter in any brand and all the info is already in there. But if you don’t have an app, keep a small diary with you and write everything down to keep track of what you are eating, how much, and how many calories. It holds yourself accountable, and it makes you conscious of your decisions.

Change up your workouts as much as possible. Gyms are wonderful, but it can get repetitive and boring. If you’re in the gym, do cardio AND strength training. It’s the best way to burn fat and calories, get your heart rate up and blood pumping, then tone. I invested in a couple of Jillian Michaels workout DVDs. Again, Amazon is incredible and I got them for like 5 bucks. It’s great to have when I don’t have time to go to the gym. Do yoga, swim, walk, run on trails, hike. Use the resources you have. But don’t get bored.
